According to a newspaper report, the man who won the nearly $315 million Powerball on Christmas 2002, and took a lump sum of $113 million after taxes, is apparently broke.

Money in that quantity should buy happiness but it seems to have brought Jack Whittaker nothing but bad luck. His granddaughter died of a drug overdose. He was arrested on drunk driving charges. He has been sued for bouncing checks at casinos in Atlantic City. His vehicles have been burglarized. His business has been burglarized.

And, then, last September, Whittaker says “a team of crooks” “got all my money” when they cashed checks at twelve City National Bank branches. The bank is investigating.
