I think the middle school that is dispensing birth control pills to students is going to step into some deep doo doo. According to the news reports, school officials will begin handing out birth control pills to 11 to 13 year-olds without advising their parents. They already dispense condoms. The thinking is that since the kids are having sex, at least they should be having safe sex.

I see major problems with what they’re doing. First, if they’re dispensing prescription drugs (birth control pills), are they doing medical exams pre-dispensing and medical follow-ups afterward? And what about getting permission from the legal guardians of these minor children?

Parents have rights when it comes to who is doing what to their children and I’m not talking about sex, I’m talking about the drugs their kids are being given without their knowledge.

I’ll be very interested to see how this situation plays out.

Oprah (do I really have to add “Winfrey”?) is now talking about the reason behind her weight gain. It’s her thyroid. I didn’t watch her show this past Tuesday so I don’t know if she actually gave the name of the specific hypothyroid problem she has but now that she is talking about it, maybe more of the medical profession will take note and anyone with similar symptoms will seek early treatment. I don’t know who thought up the paper towel commercial for Viva but it’s absolutely brilliant! Here it is on YouTube. If your mother is/was this loving, you are incredibly lucky. The rest of us can only wish we’d been as fortunate.

Topps Meat Company LLC went out of business on October 5, 2007. The largest U.S. manufacturer of frozen hamburgers  ended operations after 67 years due to the economic impact of recalling more than 21.7 million pounds of ground beef products due to the potential of E. coli contamination. Products were distributed to retail grocery stores and food service institutions throughout the U.S. For more on the recall, click here.

A meat recall by Cargill Inc. comes after four children in the same household developed E. coli illness in September. The frozen ground beef patties were sold by the Sam’s Club warehouse chain under the name American Chef’s Selection Angus Beef Patties. The patties are coded UPC 0002874907056 Item #7000141, with an expiration date of Feb. 12, 2008.

Bravo TV has had another bright idea for a reality television show. In Better Half, two professionals have two days to teach their spouses all they can about their careers/jobs so the spouses can compete against each other for a $20,000 prize. It’s a super way to screw up a marriage or serious relationship.
